Our main goal is to bring together peatland experts across Canada to reduce uncertainty in greenhouse gas emission reductions from peatland management actions and evaluate policy instruments to support their implementation. Part of the work towards this goal includes creating a Canadian peatland metadata repository to function as a searchable web-based tool that allows users to find data that pertains to their needs by providing detailed information for each dataset and where to find it.
Under this main goal, Can-Peat has multiple sub-projects to answer specific peatland research questions through new data collection or evaluation of historical data.

The BC (Biocultural) Notice is a visible notification that there are accompanying cultural rights and responsibilities that need further attention for any future sharing and use of this material or data. The BC Notice recognizes the rights of Indigenous Peoples to permission the use of information, collections, data and digital sequence information (DSI) generated from the biodiversity or genetic resources associated with traditional lands, waters, and territories. The BC Notice may indicate that BC Labels are in development and their implementation is being negotiated.
